Funding Options

Private Funding

Private funding means that the individual, or their family, pays the cost of care directly. This may be through personal savings, income, pensions, or the sale of assets such as property.

If you are privately funding care, we will work with you to:

• Discuss care needs and accommodation options
• Explain fees clearly and transparently
• Ensure the care provided meets your needs and expectations

Council-Funded Care

Council funding may be available for individuals who meet certain care and financial eligibility criteria. The Local Authority is responsible for assessing both care needs and financial circumstances to determine whether funding support can be provided.

Determining the Need for Residential Care

The first step is a Care Needs Assessment, carried out by your local Council’s Adult Social Care team. This assessment looks at:

• Your ability to manage daily living activities safely
• Physical and mental health needs
• Personal care requirements
• Risks to wellbeing or safety at home
• Whether residential care is the most appropriate option

If the assessment determines that residential care is necessary to meet your needs, the Council will then consider funding options. 

Financial Assessment

If residential care is agreed, the Council will carry out a Financial Assessment to understand your income, savings, and assets. This assessment determines:

• Whether the Council will contribute to the cost of care
• How much, if anything, the individual will need to pay

In some cases, residents may contribute towards their care costs even when Council funded.
